Ford Racing has an extensive performance parts catalog for the Mustang—so to remind everyone that its extensive support for Ford’s pony car will continue with the refreshed 2013 model, it has created a project car built up with parts from the catalog. Ford Racing began with a 2013 Mustang GT painted Gotta Have it Green, and threw the kitchen sink at it. The result is one very cool rolling showcase for Ford Racing’s available upgrades.

Engine and Driveline

The 2013 Mustang GT is a pretty powerful stallion in stock form—its 5.0-liter V-8 gained eight hp this year for a new total of 420—but Ford Racing went ahead and added even more power, anyway. In went a Ford Racing/Whipple supercharger kit that includes a 2.3-liter supercharger, larger injectors, and a prototype ECU reflash. (The 2013-specific kit hasn’t yet been finalized, but it will share its catalog part number with the supercharger kit for the 2011-2012 Mustang GT.) Ford Racing says the supercharger goods are good for an additional 204 hp, bringing the grand total to 624. Look out, Ford Mustang Shelby GT500! An 8.8-inch rear axle routes the additional power to the wheels, and a Mustang GT side-exit exhaust system and sport mufflers amp up the exhaust noise.

Chassis and Suspension

Ford Racing also beefed up the Mustang GT’s suspension with adjustable dampers front and rear, a set of lowering springs that reduce ground clearance by one inch, and tubular rear lower control arms. The stock front brakes were swapped for Brembo units with 14-inch rotors and four-piston calipers, and Ford Racing fitted a Mustang Laguna Seca brake duct kit to cool the bigger binders. The project Mustang rides on black 19-inch Track Pack wheels, and a Boss 302 Laguna Seca–derived adjustable front splitter juts out from below the front bumper.

The best part, as we already mentioned, is that everything on the car is or will be available from the Ford Racing catalog. Regardless of your feelings on modding cars, we must say that this project Mustang GT makes a pretty compelling case for the trade.
